How to Organize a Group Movie Night That Actually Happens
Every group cinema trip starts the same way: "Who's in for Thursday?" — followed by 47 messages, two maybes, one "does that include Ben?", and an organizer counting thumbs-up emoji at midnight. Here's how to replace all of it with one seat poll.
The real question isn't "who's in?" — it's "how many seats?"
Group-chat polls fail because attendance isn't binary. Petra brings her partner, Gerhard wants two seats for visiting friends, Almut is a definite maybe. What you actually need before booking is a number per person — and you need everyone in one row of seats, which means buying together, once.
Run a seat poll in TicketFae
- Create the event — type it in, or point the camera at the cinema brochure and let TicketFae read it. Add the ticket price so billing is ready later.
- Start polling seats. The event card lists your friend group as tappable pills. Ask the group however you normally would, and tap each answer in as it comes back. Friends with the free TicketFae Buddy app watch the same tally fill on their own phone.
- Watch the tally fill live. The card shows progress — "8/8 answered", a row of little seats, total tickets requested. No counting, no scrolling back.
- Close the poll. Status moves to Planning Complete; the counts are fixed. Now buy exactly that many tickets, together, in one row.
The part other planning apps skip: after the poll
Polling apps stop at "who's coming". The actual work starts after: buying, distributing and collecting. Because the poll lives in the same app, everything flows on without retyping:
- Bill before buying if you'd rather collect the money first.
- Split the ticket PDF so each friend gets their own ticket with their seat.
- Settle up with PayPal or SEPA QR codes — the poll's seat counts are already the bill.
- Afterwards: a rating poll and event photos, so the night ends in your group's shared history instead of a dead chat thread.
